Barangay Historical Background

 

            During 1940’s, Greenfield was once a sitio of Barangay Malibatuan, in the Municipality of Magpet. It was Datu Duyan whom the settlers, mostly natives recognized as their tribal chieftain. The natives did hunting wild animals for food and at the same time, did “slash and burn” and planted wild yam, corn, rice, sweet potato and cassava, while the others did raise of swine and chicken. Life then was very simple. The local folks just bartered their products. They lived harmoniously with their neighbor. Peace and order situation was very stable. They used horses as their mode of transportation. Came the decade of 1960’s Greenfield became a regular barangay under Magpet through the combined efforts spearheaded by personalities like M. Aproniano A. Ebon, Sr., Miguel Tuble, Tranquilino Tapgos, Salvador Mendoza, Felipe Rivera and Angelo Gallardo. Upon its creation as a barangay in 1964, Mr. Aproniano A. Ebon, Sr. became the first appointed barangay captain. Barangay Greenfield. Little by little prospered. Small sari-sari stores started to establish. Farming of rice and corn was heightened, paving way to the entry of buyers and sellers, The population increased with the immigration f the other settlers. Primary schools building was constructed servicing the ever-increasing number of children.

 

              Christian settlers came to the  barangay in 1970. Business started to flourish this time. There was the establishment of a logging company. The barangay  has now a complete elementary educational program. People became more business0minded. They started trading goods within the barangay and also to other neighboring barangays, There were the establishments of more sari-sari stores. The Greenfield national High School  was established in 1988. Then in 1990’s, Lazaro Lozada and Warlito Beñalon became the barangay captain. Barangay Greenfield became more prosperous with the influx of more businees enterprises. Businessmen from the neighboring municipality of Antipas started to expand their business in this barangay. In 1991, Greenfial became another municipality in the province of Cotabato with Mr. Aproniano A. Ebon as the first elected mayor.

Barangay Greenfield has a total land area of 2201 hectares, of which 1200 hectares are plain and 980  hectares are hilly. This barangay serves as the seat of the local government of Arakan. it is composed of seven sitios namely: Dili-on, napanlahan, Sabang, Over d' Hill, Guitawan, and Kasiyahan. Barangay Greenfield has a total population of 4154 individuals based on MPDO files 2003. Eighty percent (80%) are Ilonggos, Fifteen percent (15%) are Cebuanos, and Five percent (5%) are other tribes and cultural minorities. its religion is predominantly Roman Catholic (76%), followed by Aglipayan Church (10%), United Pentecostal Church (3%), General Baptist (3%), Southern Baptist (5%) and Iglisia Ni Kristo (3%).

            The Barangay has about 200 hectares planted with trees liked rubber, germilina, and fruit trees. Its chief products are corn rice. the barangay has about 4 hactares fishpond and has the biggest fron Kidapawan City via the Municipality of Antipas and passing through Barangay Doroluman.
